The day we decided to put on offer on this house turned out to be more of an ordeal than we had thought.. Chris and I decided 2 weeks before we found this house, that we wanted to buy a house. I called up a realtor that was recommended to me by a friend. The realtor was listing this house and offered it to us before it went on the market. We made the mistake of driving by the house at night and made some inaccurate assumptions about the neighborhood and passed on the house. Later, we found out that we were completely wrong about the neighborhood. We went by during the day and saw the house with the realtor and fell in love. This was our house. We also spoke with a neighbor that day who could name just about every person on the block and mentioned that most people had been there for years. We defnintely wanted to place an offer on the house. We were extremely lucky because a contract had been placed on the house, but fell through. I was in the middle of training for the MS 150 and was to do the Ride for the Roses bike ride the day of the open house. Our plan was that each of us would bike ride that morning, meet our parents at the condo and head over to see this house. Chris and I would proceed to place an offer on it afterwards. Well, plans changed. After the MS 150, I checked my cell phone messages (something I am not always good about) and found out that Chris had fallen while riding and broke both his wrists. He was with his parents at the emergency room. Rather than be with him at the emergency room, Chris wanted me to go to the open house as planned and put and offer on the house!! We really wanted that house! My parents came with me to the open house and my brother helped me negotiate the offer. After all that, we headed to hospital where Chris had been admitted. I got there just as he was being brought back to the room from surgery. Watching him come out of anesthesia was hard. I couldn't take it so I left his room and fainted! Later that evening, our realtor called us in the hospital and informed us that we got the house!! It was great news considering the circumstances. |
![]() This house was originally built in 1971. In 1991, the previous owners were remodelling the kitchen. The workers were revarnishing some cabinets and did not know that the stove's pilot light was lit. The material was flammable and there was a large explosion. Most of the home burned with the exception on the framing on the opposite side of the house. The house was rebuilt from the slab up after the fire. The owners reinforced the garage and added a master bedroom suite over it. The house is now 1950 sq. ft. and has 4 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. We think it is the perfect home into which we can grow. We are blessed to be located in the northern central part of Austin near parks and bike paths and several other places we enjoy.
