Alyssa,

You are so strong and I admire your ability to speak honestly with your children, for expressing your vulnerability with them, for speaking to them as people and not belittling your own needs at the same time. Loss is a slow leak; how beautifully expressed. When you say you've experienced death breaking a family apart, I cannot help but think of our Aunt Deborah. Did your mom tell you that Deborah spoke to me recently, telling me how she was regretful of what happened following her death? She expressed, too, that our family will come together in powerful ways soon, in ways I could not have imagined before.

I was speaking with your mom about a week ago, and she also inspired me to begin thinking differently about family. She reminded me that us cousins really do have the chance to recreate family, that we have a lot in common, and although we are geographically separated, we can make lasting bonds if only we make the effort. Thank you for bravely expressing how you feel, for opening up where, from my experience, our family has established silences as ways of coping.

I hope to speak with you very soon and reiterate my desire for us to create open, comfortable, and loving spaces and relationships.

Love,
Aaron

Thanks so much! I printed a copy and mailed it to the Great Grandparents--I know they will be happy to see how happy all of us are under the circumstances! I loved reading about your trip and the children. Introspection is a healthy thing and for the most part, it helps us get joyful about our blessings and peaceful about things we cannot control except for our reactions to them.

Love you, Mom

As we trudge through the adoption process, my husband worries about the conflicts that a second child would bring to our family. It is moments like this though that tell me this is the right path.

Red?!?!?!? Wow! Everyone goes red at some point.... Can't wait to see it! Interestingly enough, for the first time in 15 years there isn't a single trace of red in my hair! I dyed it black. Very dramatic...I love it. :)

Thanks for the insights into your life... it's rare we get a post about mommy as much as about the kids. (And speaking of the kids... Quinn looks so grown up! Wow!).

Take care!
