Being more liberal and Toddlerhood

September 29th, 2006 by Alyssa

Well, I am pooped and am feeling the effects of two margaritas..oops. Little Missy got a little hit tonight – oh well. We had a nice dinner with some good friends. Poor hubby had a sleeples night last night and his two margaritas have also kicked in so I expect him to fall asleep with Tyler tonight. I am sitting here watching the new “Sabrina” – I love that movie. Although I love it for Greg Kinnear – he rules. Actually I really want to see the old one because I also love Audrey Hepburn.

Ya know, when you have kids – EVERYONE talks to you about that first year and what to expect. Granted, you can never be ready for a baby, but NO ONE talks about toddlerhood. And for that reason I think it is much more difficult to deal with. I mean what do you do when your not even 2 year old refuses to sit in a grocery cart and go grocery shopping or your toddler suddenly refuses to wear diapers and you were not even near ready to want to potty train? They are such complex beings and as I watch Tyler and his friends, the kids grow more and more different.

Hubby and I are doing fine by the way. We had a really good week. He is pretty tired from sleeping with Tyler, but hopefully that will get better soon.

Can’ think of anything fabulous to blog. Tyler was dancing with his friend, who is more like a sister, Piper at the restaurant. Those two are so cute together.

Sorry, sucked into Sabrina. Escapism is such a lovely thing. God, I get so nostalgic for my college days sometimes. Anyway, this is really going nowhere and rather than bore you with a sensless ramble, I will sign off and finish my movie!

Everybody’s working for the Weekend

September 29th, 2006 by Alyssa

Man, isn’t that the truth? Like anyone punching a clock, on Fridays I am counting down. Both kids are down for a nap and I have just a few hours to go. I do love staying home, but ya know, life is better when Daddy is around too. The weather is getting so nice that I am ready for adventures every weekend. Next weekend we are heading to a pumpkin patch and I do hope we have a good time and Tyler thinks its cool.

Anyway, I better eat some more and get a few things done while I have a chance….

More Guilty Pleasures

September 29th, 2006 by Alyssa

I mentioned that we went to Amy’s the other day. What I ddin’t mention was the FABULOUS Chocolate Bourbon ice cream shake I enjoyed. Heaven on Earth. When Tyler was born he was on my boob all the time, so it was a while before I could actually have a drink. The way it working with breastfeeding (in case you didn’t know) your blood-alcohol level and what is in your breastmilk are the same. So the more alcohol in your system, the more that is in your milk. As the alcohol is processed our of your system, it also leaves your milk.

Well, Quinn nurses nowhere near as much as Tyler, so I have been a lot more liberal. There are days where I need a drink and if we are going out to eat, I will have a margarita. The other day I almost asked for a splash of sangria in my margarita, but then I thought the tequila alone was probably plenty.. :-p With two kids….there are days, man…

Anyway, my Chocolate Bourbon shake was a delectable collision of my favorite things: chocolate, ice cream, a frosty beverage I can enjoy through a straw, and just enough of a kick to make me feel naughty. Ahhhhh…..

Kiddo Updates

Tyler and Liam talk Poo
So I have Tyler laid down on a changing pad in Liam’s backyard – we were playing at his house this morning – changing Tyler’s poopy diaper. Liam walks up and Tyler waves (while lying down) and says “Hi Liam”. The following coversation ensues:

Liam: “Tyler’s penis” (pointing)
Tyler: “Tyler’s penis” (grabbing it)
Liam: “Cleaning Tyler’s poo poo”
Tyler: “Made poo poo”

Something like that. Here I an cleaning and the two are having this matter-of-fact coversation about it. It was pretty damn hilarious.

Read a Whole Book Cover to Cover
Chris reported that he pulled out a new book yesterday (we are talking books with a decent amount of words) and Tyler sat there while Chris read it cover to cover. He said that usually Tyler has to warm up to a book and will do a few pages at a sitting. But he digested all of this one. Pretty cool. I must say that we are so thrilled that he loves books!

Quinn’s a Roly-Poly and Loves Standing
Lay her down and sho rolls all over the place. She hasn’t succesfully rolled from her back to her tummy yet, but she gets to her side and is close. She definitely scooches everywhere. She also loves to stand. If I want a smile from her, I just stand her on my legs and she starts beaming. She is the cutest thing ever…as if you didn’t already know that!!

Giddiness

September 28th, 2006 by Alyssa

Last night I was downright giddy. Chris was home early and we went to Amy’s for ice cream. Then Project Runway was on (there was no show last week). This weekend I start my study group class and the Superfriends (my mommas’ group) are having coffee sans kids this Sunday morning. As if that isn’t enough, our wedding anniversary is this weekend (6 years wed for a total of almost 11 years together thank you very much) and Chris’ parents are taking Tyler overnight. We don’t have any lavish plans, but will do something and it will give Chris some good bonding time with his daughter. Tyler is still weaned and hasn’t even asked to nurse in the last two or three days. Things are really looking up!

Project Runway and my other Guilty Pleasure

September 28th, 2006 by Alyssa

I am so addicted to this show!! I was starting to read the blogs last night because I couldn’t get enough and needed more. I knew the season one winner, Jay McCarrol also had a fashion show at Fashion Week and was looking for dish on that. I knew it was time for bed when I was sitting there on the Project RunGay blog!! :-p I could read their dish all night – but they didn’t have kids and I did, so I did the responsible thing and finally went to bed. I can’t wait to see the final runway shows!!

Dare I admit this….there is one other show I watch – although I just catch the re-airings when I have a chance. Don’t laugh, but Flavor of Love. It is such trash and I love it. I have to hide because I am supporting stuff that is truly trashy. But ya know – it is a guilty pleasure and at least it will end!! :-p

After PR is over, I guess there is just football to watch. I actually kind of like getting into reality shows because it is like 8 weeks and then done – it is not like I am hooked all season.

Oh, and we just got a DVR, so I can also record things which is nice. The main reason for the DVR is two kids and football season. I know that Chris is not going to have the luxury of sitting through football games with two kids. To keep him from getting grumpy about that, I suggested we get the DVR so he could record games or pause what he is watching in case he is needed. I also thought that way he could record some games and watch them offseason when he is getting a football itch.

A Day Behind

September 28th, 2006 by alyssahedge

Survived a Day at the Dentist
Actually, the dentist was the least of my worries. I was more concerned about how Quinn would fare on the 25 to 30 minute drive there and back and if Tyler would go crazy hanging out in our house all morning even though his friends would be there playing with him. Well, I guess the worst part was the dentist as I have two cavities. I wasn’t surprised – my dental hygiene went to hell somewhere during the pregnany. When you are having to eat in the middle of the night because you are starving, you are just setting yourself up – especially when you are eating Luna bars to stave off the hunger. Those still have a ton of sugar and it sits on my teeth until morning. {sigh} Now I have to figure out how to get back out there to get them taken care of.

Quinn slept all the way there and only started fussing the last 5 minutes of the way home. My dentist rules by the way. They wanted me to come in and said bring the baby! Sure enough, one of the nurses watched her while I got my teeth cleaned. Tyler was fine taking a 2 hour nap for me. So all is well that ends well I guess.

Oh, and I think I am going to have to get a retainer. I noticed my bottom front teeth are shifting and started to be a bit crooked. I didn’t wear braces for three years in high school just to have to do it all over again 20 years later. I want to be proactive and get that taken care of. And who knows – when I finally have the time, energy and desire to wear make-up again and actually own a wardrobe, I may just whiten the teeth. I have been SO against this for a while as I didn’t want to give in to vanity. I wanted to accept myself for me and I have so far. But who knows. That is so way in the future and at this time, we don’t have the kind of money where I would even think about doing that. More than anything, I want to get some new clothes. Right now I have 5 shirts snd shorts that I cycle through every week. Kind of a uniform – a nursing top and a pair of shorts. This will work until I am back in shape and can get some more snazzy activewear.
