I couldn’t be a single mom

April 11th, 2006 by Alyssa

Ug, Tyler was a bear tonight. Spent an hour trying to get him to sleep at a reasonable hour (7:20 - 8:20pm) and he was no where close. So I was frustrated and let him go play. All was fine until I started the vacuum cleaner - then he got really clingly, but didn’t want to hit the hay. Finally, at 9:30pm, the kid is asleep and I am in tears.

I hate that I get so frustrated. When I do, I totally disconnect and it is something I really need to work on. I was missing Chris not being here and having someone to spell me at that moment. It has been like three days and I’m breaking down. Actually the days are fine - they usually are for me. It is nighttime where I am ready to “end my shift”. So when I am the only one on duty and Tyler wants to make a late night of it - I can lose my cool. I need that break.

Blasted Daylight Savings Time {fists shaking}! We had a good handle on Tyler’s sleep window and had him down at the same time pretty consistently. These days it is all over the place and I guess it is going to take a little experimenting and patience to get it all back in sync.

Anyway, I need to eat and doing a few quick things so I can hit the hay myself. Didn’t get the best sleep last night, so I really need to try and get more tonight.

Hoping to fine some time to blog about our exciting days soon!

Stay At Home Moms Don’t Stay at Home

April 11th, 2006 by Alyssa

They shouldn’t call us Stay at Home Moms because we are never there! Every morning this week, we have had an outing planned that has us out of the house until Noon or 1pm. Then there is the nap and then we are up and off again!! The mornings pass so quickly!!

We have had a better week so far. Tyler was down at 8:23pm last night - of course, I didn’t crash until much later, but oh well. I am enjoying hanging out with the Superfriends - everyone has been so nice and excited for me which I really appreciate.

This Could Be the Start of a Long Week…..

April 9th, 2006 by Alyssa

OMG. So Chris went out of town this morning. He won’t be back until late Wednesday night….and he has a launch on Friday night. Anyway, Tyler didn’t crash until 9:45pm. I gave him the bottle at 8:05pm - either that wasn’t early enough or I shouldn’t have let him partake in my Dairy Queen blizzard over at my brother’s.

So getting a few things wrapped up and go into my bedroom to get ready for bed….where I find that my cat has puked on my pillow!! Thanks, Maddie….

I live in a zoo….and the animals are restless. Did I mention that Tyler crapped in the tub last week?

I just have to laugh….

Murphy’s Law

April 9th, 2006 by Alyssa

For many weekends, Tyler’s nap has lasted about 1 hour and 20 minutes or so. So many of those weekends, we were pooped and were hoping for a monster 2 hour nap like we used to get. Well, this afternoon, we are to go over to my brother’s for a cookout and were to leave after Tyler’s nap - around 2pm.

The boy went down at 12:15pm - it is 2:50pm and he is still asleep!! This is almost a 3 hour nap!! I have opened the curtains and rubbed his back, but he is still asleep. I don’t necessarily want to wake him up though. When you break into the sleep they obviously need/want - you will usually end up with a pretty fussy child.

I can tell my Dad is a little irritated as he probably feels stuck here and wants to be over at my brother’s. I also know my brother wants to play basketball at 6pm. Oh well - can’t please everyone and since Chris is out of town and I am on my own, I prefer to make choices that ensure my child is in the best mood possible. Did I mentioned he is getting his last molar? (I am celebrating - last molar, last molar!! Just 4 canines and 1 lower tooth to go!)

I Made Homemade Yogurt!!

April 9th, 2006 by Alyssa

My Very Cool Yogurt Maker
In am attempt to save some money, I asked my parents for a yogurt maker. May I go off on a quick tangent and ask why is it the harder you try to save money, the more that you spend? That is how I am feeling these days anyway.

The kind of yogurt we buy is $1 a yogurt and I was buying like 10 a week. I FINALLY got around to trying my yogurt maker and made strawberry yogurt. It is really easy to make and the only ingredients were milk, yogurt starter (I used White Mountain yogurt) and the fruit (a mix of strawberries, sugar and water cooked on the stove until thickened). This time around I didn’t scald the milk which makes for a thinner yogurt, but still very tasty. I may try the scalding next time just to see how it affects the texture. I also used whole milk this time and will try skim next time as I know Chris will want this skim to stay on his “diet”.

It rocked!! I have 14 jars and will probably make 2 batches a week. I want to try tons of different fruit combinations as well as maple and coffee. Fun, fun, fun!!

Tyler Annual Destruction of a Bluebonnet..or Two

April 9th, 2006 by Alyssa

We visited LadyBird Johnson Wildflower Center last weekend with Chris’ folks hoping that Chris and his Dad could get some good wildflower shots. It was pretty cloudy that day and things weren’t yet in full bloom, so we will probably return soon. Tyler enjoyed exploring the grounds and had a really good time. Of course, he grabbed one or two bluebonnets before I could get to him. Usually he just points and the flowers, but I guess he was overcome with a whole field of flowers and wanted to take one home!!

April 9th, 2006 by Alyssa

Our first and I bet probably only belly shot from this pregnancy. The first reason Quinn will probably need therapy! :-p Ug - I really don’t like pictures of me and Chris failed to mention I was squinting hence my funky eyebrow. Anyway, I am 28 weeks in this picture.
