Walkasaurus

January 30th, 2006 by Alyssa

We went to Saltlick Saturday night with Tyler. It seems while we were there Tyler figured out that walking totally rocked! For about 45 minutes to an hour all he wanted to do was walk around. Chris and I took turns holding his hands as he steered us all over the grounds. There was many people to watch and flirt with, a band to watch, food to smell, etc. It was so amazing!!

Also, earlier that day at his Grandparents he was practicing getting himself up to standing and then taking a few steps. Any day now this kid is going to take off!! I have some pictures to post. Unfortunately, they are on Chris’ camera and I do not know how to download them. So this evening I will get them up.

On the Way Home
We thought that surely Tyler would konk on the way home from Saltlick so we had him in his jammies and a blanket over him. Well, after drinking a bottle, he begins to play the cutest game of peek-a-boo with me and his blanket. He was giggling so much! It wasn’t sleep, but I will take giggles over tears any day! He finally hit the hay at 10:30pm and his parents followed very soon after!

Other Cute Thing
We were driving home from a Starbucks run and Tyler was playing with this teddy bear he had. It is one of those that teaches body parts so you press the nose and he says “nost”. Well, Tyler was pressing the hand and it would say “green hand” and he presses it again and it says “Yaaaay!” What was cute was that Tyler was repeating the “Yay!” part doing his own little “Yaaaay”! I just love my sons little voice.

Daddy is the word!
Tyler has said “dad” for a while though it is kind of like “dat”. Well yesterday it became “daddy”. It was too cool! I know Chris LOVED evey moment of it!!

Thank God Its Friday!

January 27th, 2006 by Alyssa

Well, I am back at work today. Tyler is fine (although he has developed quite the cough which I am a bit worried about) and back at daycare. Besides that cough, no runny nose or fever, so who knows - allergies, maybe? Anyway, it has been a LONG week and I am looking forward to the weekend. Wanted to give a couple of updates:

Cute Tyler Stuff
The other night I hear Tyler stir and went to check on him. He was resettling himself, but before he was completely silent, I heard him say “ah-pple” and again “ah-pple”. That was it - he was out! I guess he had been processing his day because there was a lot of talk of apple that day. It was the cutest thing.

Tyler, Sticks are not for Mulching

Walk Routines
So when Tyler walks with his walker I will sometimes walk right next to him shuffling my feet. He thinks it is hilarious. He has this funny routine. He will walk for a little bit, stop, step out to the side I am on, grab my leg, and lick my jeans (almost more like a kiss or something). Then he is off an walking again. I don’t know what he is doing, but it is the cutest thing to see.

Tyler Gaining Confidence about Taking Steps

This Weekend
We got a lot done this week, so I guess I should take it easy this weekend, huh? We will a little bit. We have Chris’ folks lined up to do a little babysitting on Saturday so that we can go see Harry Potter (again, the midnight how wasn’t enough) at Alamo Drafthouse. Then later that night, we will be heading to Saltlick so Tyler can have his first real BBQ. We are attending a birthday party there. The plan is to head home when Tyler is tired with the hope that he will just crash in the car on the way home. Sunday we have a baby shower to go to as well. In between, I have a few things I want to get done, but I will try not to get too crazy about it.

New Nighttime Routine

January 27th, 2006 by Alyssa

Hey, so I think we have a new nighttime routine for Tyler that I really like. If it continues to work - it accidentally happened last night, it might be a win-win for everyone. It allows me to nurse Tyler, but not have to put him to bed. That routine goes:

1.) Mommy gives Tyler a bath
2.) Tyler gets Mommy’s Milk
3.) Daddy reads Tyler books
4.) Daddy walks and sings Tyler to sleep

I like that because Tyler still gets his nursing time in the evenings. I thought he was going to konk after his bath, so I started nursing him. Well, no dice, but we had some nice nursing time. Chris took him and did as above and it was a very peaceful routine. We will see if Tyler continues to transition from Mommy to Daddy without fuss. And some nights if he does fall asleep with me, well that is fine too.

Will this blog pace keep up?
I really enjoy getting to blog every morning and putting up pics of Tyler. It occurs to me that the pace will probably slow dramatically once I stay home and I won’t have 5 minutes to myself very often. Ideally, I would love to get up an hour before Tyler so I have some time to myself, but when he wakes up at 6:20am some mornings, he beats me to the punch! Chris did a playground “photo shoot” of Tyler last Friday, so you will see several of those photos sprinkled throughout the blog the next couple of days.

We May Be in the Clear

January 26th, 2006 by Alyssa

Well, Tyler has has pretty normal poos today and at his normal times. So, if the rest of the day continues like this, I am going to give him the all clear. It may have been something he ingested..who knows? I am thankful if we escape anything worse. He is napping at the moment, so I am going to take advantage of the free time to get a few things done and perhaps lay down for a bit.

Take care.

Home with Tyler Today

January 26th, 2006 by Alyssa

Well, it seems he got some piece of some stomach bug. He has diarrhea and a nasty diaper rash. Really nothing compared to what the other mommies have faced. He had a normal night last night, no fever, no vomiting, no explosive poos and definitely nothing like 10 a day, etc. And I have dealt with diarrhea before, so we are just doing our thing. He actually hasn’t poo’d yet this morning, so I am interested to see what things are looking like today. Definitely want to keep him away from daycare though.

To all those who don’t have kids yet, but will one day - just know that one day this will be your life and poo will ALWAYS be the topic of the day!

Can’t blog much as I have a child who is wanting my attention at the moment. Here is a pic from us as the park on the slide:

Daddy said, “I can’t believe you fed him the beets”

January 25th, 2006 by Alyssa

I told Tyler he would say that as soon as I put the beets on his tray. Beets are so healthy and I was wanting to continue to expand Tyler’s palette. The result - he LOVED them. Granted I had cooked them with some apple and apple juice that gave them a lovely flavor. I feel so lucky that he eats everything. It will be interesting to see how his preferences narrow as he grows older and gets to that “picky” stage. Just hope he doesn’t lose that love of Indian food! Here are some pictures of Tyler enjoying beets!

Are you getting this Mom? Ooo, can I touch the camera?

No picures, no pictures, please!

Sewing was Fun and Life Continues to Change

January 25th, 2006 by Alyssa

My sewing class was pretty fun. Our teacher said we got through the boring class, of course without the “boring” stuff, you wouldn’t get very far! She gave us some great tips on cleaning, oiling and threading our machines that would get us off on the right foot. We are starting some projects next week. My head is already starting to swim with things I could start to make after the class….

Life Changes
Well, I think our nighttime routine may be changing again - Chris may start putting Tyler to bed. I have been hesistant to nurse him to sleep lately as he bites. He doesn’t do this overnight thankfully. It will be helpful when the baby comes to have Tyler used to his Daddy and not needing me at night. This will allow me to tend to the baby and get to bed earlier so I can handle whatever the night will bring with two kids. We don’t even think that Tyler needs a bottle as he wants to drink that sitting up. Chris pretty much reads books until he is tired then walks him around the house in the dark singing to him until he is out.

Guess that means that I now get bath time. Ug. It isn’t so bad, it is just that I pretty much need to get naked for that as Tyler flings water everywhere. He LOVES water - what baby doesn’t I guess? :-p It seems such a great Daddy thing, but if Daddy is taking over the getting him to bed, well hey, I can take bath time.

Tyler is definitely in his crib now. He doesn’t even want to lay in bed with me anymore. He wants me to be doing stuff to get him back to sleep - so rocking, walking, patting, massaging. There are nights where I wish I could take him to bed and nurse him to sleep, but it seems those days have come to a close. There is more crying now. When he is ready to be asleep, he wants to be in a comfortable position right away. So, he fidgets in my arms and then gets even more annoyed as I try to quickly get him into the crib and massage and pat him. It is this strange dance to help him find a happy place. The earlier wakings are more peaceful (nurse back to sleep) than the later ones (many more hoops to dance through here!).

He did sleep for 6 hours straight last night - of course, he was up at 6AM. Then the next 40 minutes I nursed and walked him will he was really ready to get up. Silly, silly boy!
