Sleep is good!

November 10th, 2004 by Alyssa

I was so tired last night and so was Chris. We decided to head to bed early – which is around 11pm for us. I feel sooooo rested this morning. Such a nice feeling – one I should enjoy while I can! :-p

Of course, this week is full of busy things – we have a newborn care class tonight and will also be touring the labor and delivery rooms where Tyler will be born. I am also getting together with my little sister (Big Brothers Big Sisters) tomorrow night. What does all this mean? A pretty stressed me because I will not be able to tackle very much on my to-do list. Not much I can do really – just plow through. Both evenings will be enjoyable – just need to let myself relax a bit.

Our side-car co-sleeper bed arrived yesterday – hoping we can get that set up tonight. I will have to post a picture in case you haven’t seen one of these things. I think they are such a cool solution for new parents!

Well – I am going to answer some email and get my day going. You all take care!

We are entering some scary times….

November 9th, 2004 by Alyssa

The gravity of the outcome of this election is really hitting me as I read more and more news stories like this. Knowing that there are Supreme Court changes likely with this administration – I am really nervous.

We have separation of church and state for a reason. We talk so much about freedom and democracy, but we are slowly allowing a certain faction to dictate the freedoms they feel are morally allowed. For now these are isolated instances, but if they gain state support, I think that it will open the door for more.

Isn’t that why the Pilgrims headed over here in the first place? They came to have the freedom to practice their religion openly without fear of persecution? I am fine if people are morally opposed to birth control, however you have to consider that when you select your profession. Many people do not enter the armed forces because they are opposed to taking someone else’s life and know that may be required of them.

Sorry – I just had to rant.

Cinnamon Rolls Not Breakfast of Champions

November 9th, 2004 by Alyssa

Ick… Had to go to the store to get some breakfast. Ended up with a blueberry croissant, a cinnamon roll, an unripe banana and chocolate soy milk. The latter two aren’t too bad (except for the unripe part), but now my stomach is not happy about the 1st 2 items. Should have just gotten some milk and cereal.

Enjoyed this little brief from The Onion:

Nader Supporters Blame Electoral Defeat On Bush, Kerry
WASHINGTON, DCSupporters of presidential candidate Ralph Nader blamed his defeat Tuesday on George W. Bush and John Kerry, claiming that the two candidates “ate up” his share of the electoral votes. “This election was stolen out from under Mr. Nader by Bush and Kerry, who diverted his votes to the right and the left,” Nader campaign manager Theresa Amato said. “It’s an outrage. If Nader were the only candidate, he would be president right now.” In his concession speech, Nader characterized Bush and Kerry as spoilers.

Hah! My boss just came in with breakfast tacos!! Now, I will have to make room for those too. Better for me than the other crap… pregnant women needs LOTS of protein. Anyway – I am off to eat some tacos and get some work done – have a lovely day! :-D

P.S. Congratulations to my dear friend Alisha who just told me that she is engaged to her amazing man, Andrew! They make an awesome couple…we all knew it was just a matter of time. Congrats to both of you!

Is this what the next 4 years will be like?

November 8th, 2004 by Alyssa

Apparently, creationism is in and evolution is out….because school boards want to teach alternate theories like “intelligent design” — the idea that life is too complex to have developed without a creator.

Science just isn’t supposed to be that hard, I guess….at least the test answers should get a lot easier….

** 7:16pm edit: I want to clarify that my issue is with religion in schools. These folks want to teach a variety of theories – not just evolution when it comes to science, but when it comes to sexual education want to limit prevention discussions to abstinence. I have no problem educating children that there is more than one possibility, but lets not be hypocritical about that.

Confusion….

November 8th, 2004 by Alyssa

Huh… So remember when the .html extensions were missing? Well, for today’s post – they are there and EVERYTHING is working.. I am thrilled, but would like to have known what fixed it. The post pages are still broken for my older posts. Maybe it was some setting I tweaked…

Now I just need to format how the comments look which shouldn’t take me any time. Probably shouldn’t be doing that at work though.. :-p

So try and leave me comments now and we will see how it goes. Have a great day! :-D

Where is the .html?

November 8th, 2004 by Alyssa

Well folks, I am so close to getting my comments working. At least I know what is wrong. Blogger creates these links – the problem is that mine don’t have an .html extension or any for that matter. This is actually OK for Internet Explorer, but won’t work in the Firefox browser. Also, because the comment pages are buried in a directory that I can’t configure, all my home page images won’t come display. Urg… I am getting there. Will email the blogger folks if I can’t get it figured out.

On an up note, the archives are working now and I updated the look and feel. I still have some work to do correcting links, etc – but I am getting there. Babysteps as they say.

We are buzzing along here. Picked up our new coffee table in Fredericksburg – it looks so cool. It is a slate-top table made with antique pine. Very rustic looking. Also got some cool gadgetry for our iPod. My folks were up this weekend and we spend some time with them as well as doing some Mongolian BBQ with friends last night.

Not much else to report…haven’t listened to the news yet this AM, so don’t really know what all is going on in the world.. Will have to see if Arafat is still alive…the news media seems to have the “death watch” set up. Anyway, I need to head out to work. Talk to you guys later….

A beautiful day in the neighborhood….

November 6th, 2004 by Alyssa

This is my favorite time in Texas!! It is a beautiful 70-degree sunny day with a cool breeze in the air. It is the kind of weather that really lifts your spirits. Speaking of, sorry for all the dramatics yesterday. I was just having a really bad day. But, I took care of myself. Left work early, went swimming and then went to Body Shop and treated myself to some Shea Body Butter and some White Musk lotion. I am so sensitive to smells – so any kind of aromatherapy is soooo nice…

Huh – I didn’t know that Fleetwood Mac sang “Black Magic Woman”…is that right? That is what the radio announcer just said… Doesn’t sound like them….

Anyway – today is nice. My Mom is coming up to finish the bumper pads, dust ruffle and curtains for the nursery. The only other thing Chris and I are looking for is a cheap, small table to go by the glider. I hear that breastfeeding gives you the munchies! :-p I am also starting Christmas cards which for me is FUN stuff!! I love doing my holiday cards. Will probably also start some holiday shopping (yay – Amazon!). Again, all fun stuff, so it puts me in a great mood.

Well, I am getting hungry and need to eat something…. Take care and I hope you have a great weekend too…
